Description
The System Manager ensures operational readiness, supervises operation and manages barge staff to safely and efficiently deploy STAX Engineering’s Emission Reduction as a Service (ERaaS) system. In this role, the System Manager will oversee and direct the delivery of STAX emissions reduction initiatives for maritime vessels. The ideal candidate will have strong managerial and people skills, technical expertise, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges efficiently.
- Ensure STAX Engineering’s Emission Reduction as a Service (ERaaS) systems are fully prepared for deployments
- Protect proprietary information related to ERaaS and ensure that the systems are used properly.
- Monitor system performance, address alarms or anomalies, and take corrective action to maintain efficiency.
- Adjust system parameters to optimize performance in response to demand or environmental changes.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify wear, damage, or inefficiencies.
- Record performance metrics, maintenance activities, and incidents.
- Analyze performance data trends to predict failures or identify improvement areas.
- Prepare and submit reports for supervisors and regulatory compliance
- Adhere to safety procedures and industry standards, ensuring safe system operations.
- Maintain compliance with environmental regulations, safety requirements and contractual obligations.
- Work independently and use discretion and judgement in managing barge operations and personnel
- Ensure that the barge staff complies with all safety protocols and requirements of STAX, and the vessel being serviced, including enforcement of personal protective equipment requirements.
- Train and mentor new operators and deckhands on system operations and protocols.
- Supervise and direct the work and duties of the deckhands during operations using independent discretion by evaluating the needs of the operations and the skills of the deckhands on the shift to ensure tasks are completed effectively and safely.
- Provide critical feedback concerning the performance of subordinate employees and integrate with regional managers input to prepare performance evaluations.
- Investigate misconduct and/or potential violations of STAX policies and procedures.
- Discipline deckhands during barge operations and determine when corrective action is needed.
- Determine when appropriate to begin investigation into potential misconduct or violation of STAX policy and procedure. Review circumstances concerning potential discipline, including investigating said facts, determining whether to take corrective action and issue discipline to deckhands based on independent discretion.
- Direct complex operations or troubleshooting scenarios.
- Manage the scheduling and loading of necessary consumables such as diesel fuel, hydrogen fuel, and crew supplies.
- Manage regeneration of STAX Processing Systems.
- Work in tandem with the Regional Manager to determine connection plan
- Manage connection/disconnection of STAX system to vessels.
- Serve as primary interface with vessel personnel to accommodate needs and address any vessel-related issues.
- Ensure appropriate data is collected.
- Lead and execute repairs on ERaaS systems while in service as required to ensure continued operation.
- Report and communicate any operational problems or concerns to the appropriate teams or stakeholders.
- Maintain record of post service reporting.
- Liaise with deck hands and tug personnel on positioning of barge.
- Support service operations across ports when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related environmental or mechanical field, or equivalent related work experience
- US or equivalent international maritime license as Third Assistant Engineer or higher preferred.
- Strong leadership, people management and communication skills
- Technical engineering experience.
- Proven experience in system operations, maintenance, or technical management, particularly in maritime or emissions-related industries.
- Ability to work independently to troubleshoot technical problems quickly and efficiently.
- Experience with managing schedules, consumables, and logistics for operations.
- Knowledge of emissions reduction technologies or similar mechanical/electrical systems is a plus.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
