We our currently offering an excellent career opportunity for a Master in Galveston, TX with the leader in the oil spill response industry.  The Master will be responsible for vessel navigation, operations, management, care and safety of the crew and vessel. This position offers a unique schedule; Monday - Thursday with the ability to go home nights and weekends. Responsibilities:

  • Candidates will need to live local to the Galveston, TX area and be able to report back to the vessel within 2 hours to comply with MSRC's emergency response mission.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, operation, and employment of the vessel and crew in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with all applicable State and Federal Regulations pertinent to the vessel and its operation.
  • Ensure the vessel is ready and seaworthy in all respects prior to getting
    Effectively manage the navigational watch at all times while underway or at anchor, and when appropriate, man a fire & security watch.
  • Oversee crew health and coordinate medical needs as required.
  • Responsible for the administrative support required of the vessel and crew. Establish procedures to protect MSRC property assigned to the vessel from loss or unauthorized use, and to account for material, equipment and services received onboard the vessel.
  • Effectively communicate to the Regional Marine Operations Manager in carrying out all tasks.


Requirements

Requirements 

  • Current USCG license of Master 500 GRT or greater
  • Valid USCG STCW endorsements required including : GMDSS, ECDIS, ARPA, Radar Observer
  • Valid USCG medical certificate with current STCW dates
  • Valid TWIC card
  • 40-Hour Hazwoper certification desired
  • Employment is contingent upon completion of a successful background check, pre-hire medical exam and drug screen, and the ability to obtain a valid driver's license and U.S. Passport

Physical Requirements Include, Among Others:

  • Requires standing, lifting up to 45lbs
  • Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
  • Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments
  • Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks
