JOB SUMMARY
The position is located aboard the Bowhead Transport 150’ Landing Craft, M/V Unalaq operating in South East Alaska, South Central Alaska, the Aleutians, Western Alaska and the North Slope. The position requires a rotational 60 / 60  work schedule.  A private stateroom is available to the Equipment Operator.  The Operator is responsible for loading and offloading cargo in ports and on beaches or natural landings, running a masted Volvo 220 loader (Or similar loader) and the operation of a Hitachi 110 excavator, (Or similar / larger).  This position will also require a number of daily tasks associated with the maintenance and upkeep of all equipment on board Unalaq as directed by the Captain, Mate or Chief Engineer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
• Routinely perform safety observations, rounds, and inspections
• Maintain equipment in good/clean working order
• Adhere to all USCG, and UIC HSE policies and procedures at all times
• Maintain communication with PIC to assess current and future job requirements
• Stand Watches
• Secure cargo
• Handle / stage / stow equipment, beach support equipment, cargo handling gear, stationary rigging, and running gear
• Performs a variety of duties concerning the upkeep and general maintenance of the deck department
• Tasks as assigned by Captain
Watch Duty
• Performs a variety of duties, including but not limited to looking for obstructions in path of vessel, steering vessel, serving on security patrol, and standing gangway watch.
Small Boat Operations
• Launches and recovers support boat
• Operates smaller skiffs and work boats as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Ability to operate heavy equipment - loader, excavators, skid steers, rock trucks, telehandler, etc.
• Competent in small boat operations
• Knowledge to rig and operate hydrographic and other specialty winches
• Possess the knowledge, abilities, and skills to communicate effectively
• Sound knowledge of marine operations
• Able to complete an annual Merchant Mariners physical exam and perform physically demanding shipboard duties.
• Strong interpersonal/team skills 



Requirements

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• USCG Able Body Seaman Limited, Or a USCG Ordinary Seaman
• STCW-95 endorsements in Basic Safety Training and Life boatman
• U.S. Citizenship
• Valid U.S. Passport - minimum six (6) months prior to renewal
• Valid TWIC - minimum six (6) months prior to renewal
• Valid Drivers’ License - minimum six (6) months prior to renewal
